H&M, Boohoo face off with UK legislators over sustainable fashion policy

An evidence meeting for the UK’s Environmental Audit Committee showed the danger of leaving fashion businesses to their own devices on sustainability. What now?

On Wednesday 1 May, members of the UK’s Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) gathered in the Palace of Westminster to take stock of the fashion industry’s sustainability efforts since the landmark ‘Fixing Fashion’ report in 2019 that outlined 17 policy recommendations, including strengthening the Modern Slavery Act for textiles; reducing microfibre pollution; and introducing tax incentives for more sustainable businesses.
